Social Contagion: or Is Happiness Catching? Rev. Dr. Richard Shoup (from The Counseling Center) Dr. Richard Shoup is a psychotherapist, consultant, and public speaker. He will be speaking about the latest social research on how people influence one another. Apparently, happiness is catching, and most social interactions influence us. Emotions, like crying and anger are catching as well. Why are we so incredibly susceptible to the influence of others? It seems mimicry is innate. Dr. Shoup will look at the possibilities for growth and development: How could this information help us lose weight or keep any of our New Year's resolutions? And on the social front, what if we all began to believe that wars and hunger and poverty were all unnecessary and could be eradicated? And finally, what are the implications for the power of Christian community? |
