Nell Macdonald, Director of Youth and Children’s Choirs
Our choirs are open to all children and youth, Nursery School-12th grades. We welcome participants from Bronxville and all surrounding communities. Our children and youth choristers sing at church services between 6 to 8 times from September to June (except our youngest Cherub “choir-in-training” which participates twice during the year).
In rehearsal, singers learn essential elements of music and choral techniques– singing a variety of music from traditional to contemporary styles. In the process the choristers experience the joy of serving others through their musical gifts, while reinforcing Christian principles; making lifelong friends, and having fun! Light, nutritious snacks are provided at the beginning of rehearsal—which also provides a time of fellowship and prayer.
Every year the children and youth choirs also participate in several larger choral events. The White Gift Service is a wonderful Christmas pageant where gifts are collected for those who are less fortunate. Later on in the winter, all of the Reformed Church choirs participate in an annual Choir Festival--a beautiful, musically inspiring event! In the Spring, the three upper choirs (3rd-12th grade) sing at an annual mission concert. Choristers sing popular choral arrangements while raising funds for a local or international cause. And finally, the middle and high school choirs go on a trip – lots of fun for all!
