The Accessibility Elevator is an exterior elevator and accessible entrance at the back of the Midland Avenue parking lot between the original Church building and the Education building. The ADA compliant elevator will connect all four levels of the Education building and create an accessible entrance from the parking lot into the second floor of the Education building.
For years, it has been the dream of many to make our church fully accessible to members and guests confined to wheelchairs, the elderly who have a difficult time negotiating the front and back steps to the church, members who have sustained leg injuries, and for the custodial staff who must move stacks of chairs and other heavy equipment from floor to floor. Planning for the church’s new elevator has been underway for some time, with a fundraising campaign to raise $1.6 million to cover the cost of the project was conducted in 2006-2007. Almost one million dollars was raised.
Construction was started in June, 2007, with the church receiving the Permanent Certificate of Occupancy in April, 2009.
