The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Ruge
|
It is with great joy, excitement, and a view toward an extraordinary future for The Reformed Church of Bronxville that we announce the unanimous call of our new senior minister, The Rev. Dr. Kenneth C. Ruge.
Dr. Ruge was chosen following an extensive search process that encompassed 90 potential candidates from around the United States. To paraphrase Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, “We didn't have to look any further than our own back yard.” That is precisely where Ken was applying his magical ministry – at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan and in our building at the Counseling Center of Westchester.
To highlight some of Ken’s accomplishments: He comes to us from Marble Collegiate, where he is currently serving as the Administrative Minister with oversight of 43 church employees, including four ministers. He shares the pulpit equally with Dr. Arthur Caliandro, the hand chosen successor of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, one of the great theologians of the 20th century. Ken has been preaching and lecturing at Marble since 1985. In 2008, he assumed the position of Administrative Minister and has responsibility for the worship services (which are televised weekly and available worldwide via the internet), the music program, the Church School, and all other programming. Ken’s oversight of the programs and services at Marble has given him experience that will be invaluable as he leads The Reformed Church of Bronxville toward further enlightenment, joy, and inclusiveness.
Ken graduated Cum Laude from Carleton College, holds a Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in NYC and his Doctorate of Ministry in Psychiatry and Religion from Andover Newton. For over 20 years, Ken has been working as a marriage and family counselor in New York City and environs. He holds licenses in Marriage and Family Therapy, is a Fellow for the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and is an Approved Supervisor and Clinical Member of American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. He is also a consultant to the Episcopal Bishop to the Armed Forces. Dr. Ruge has authored three books: Where Do I Go From Here?; Soul-Mapping, with Nina Frost and Richard Shoup; and The Othello Response, with Barry Lenson. He has also written numerous articles in national magazines, journals, and newspapers.
Since 1985, Ken has led and moderated team-building and leadership development programs and retreats for companies such as AT&T; Goldman Sachs; Morgan Stanley and nonprofits such as the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the New Jersey Regional Consistory of the Reformed Church in America.
Ken lives in Rye with his wife of 31 years, The Rev. Canon Susan Harriss, who is the Rector of Christ’s Church of Rye. They have three children; 24, 20, and 16. Ken will officially start his duties on March 1, 2009, the first Sunday of Lent. |
