Education

Education Ministries at The Reformed Church of Bronxville

True Christian education, as Parker Palmer said, should result in transformation.  The church father, Bishop Irenaeus said, "The glory of God is man fully alive."  In pursuit of this transformation and aliveness of spirit, we walk alongside people of all ages, in their journeys to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ:

  • Educating the children, youth, and adults of our congregation about what it means to be Christian—taking part in the Holy Spirit’s work of forming disciples

  • Engaging the surrounding culture with our minds and hearts from a thoughtful Christian perspective—addressing relevant issues of the day

  • Encouraging one another to speak about our faith and spirituality—seeking God together

  • Equipping the people of our congregation to reach out to the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ’s love, forgiveness, and new life.

  Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer;
  into a selflessness which links us with all humanity.

"Religious instruction focuses its attention on the content of the Christian faith, the environment of teaching and learning, and methods and group processes.  Religious instruction seeks primarily to educate Christians for faithful living, for finding a balance between the sacred and the secular, between the holy and the ordinary, between the sacraments in liturgy and the way we live in response to our baptisms as we move out from the table where Jesus Christ is the host.  Religious instruction must focus on helping adult learners of all ages frame their lives in terms of a new way of seeing, hearing, sensing, being, and finally doing—because of their faith in God who is Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer."  Attributed to Elizabeth F. Caldwell, "Religious Instruction: Homemaking", in Mapping Christian Education
